The Noble Lady's Society

morose3

I talk big about how my life can be difficult because I have physical and mental disabilities. Hopefully a fair amount of people can relate to me on that and find some hope in my writing.

However.

I want to give a shout-out to the difficulties of being a woman.

As much as we want to believe the world has changed, there's no doubting the inequality that women face. We fought for our right to vote and to wear pants and to go to school. I've grown up around a lot of strong women. I was even luck enough to get my first job in a female-dominated space. But even there, I watched how I dressed. Male patrons called me "toots" and "sweetheart," an old man I'd never met decided it was acceptable to come up behind me and put both his hands on my shoulders. And a 60-year-old married man asked me to the movies.

I promptly lied and claimed I had a boyfriend.

Why did I do that? It wasn't to spare his feelings, it's because I felt trapped.

A blog called The Noble Lady's Society by my friend Alexis Mitchem has an enlightening post about women and men in the workplace. She says that women will continue uncomfortable conversations with men because it's the polite thing to do -- in other words, we feel trapped to do so. Check out that post and more, on her inspirational blog.

"Standing up against the power that is known as the patriarchy is the main message that the Noble Lady's Society indents to convey . . . My mission is to use my voice to illicit a conversation about change and show how the value of women must be perceived differently."

- Alexis, The Noble Lady's Society

We're tired of being the "gentler sex," or "weaker," and basically being treated inferiorly because we live in a man's world. Join me in following Alexis's journey and participating in important conversations that we as a society need to have.

"It's a man's world out there, girls, and to get ahead, you gotta be stronger than a man. You gotta be a WO-MAN."

I am extremely pleased that you appreciated my post and were able to add to the conversation the difficulty it is a woman can face in the workplace. Thank you again for using your platform to initiate change and I really enjoy the picture from A Very Potter Musical one of my all time favs!
